Summer Private Instruction: Piano, Voice, Violin, Suzuki Violin, Flute, & Guitar

Private instruction (ages 6 to adult)  Summer is the PERFECT time to start – or continue! – private lessons.  Our teachers make it fun and rewarding and we’ll accommodate your summer schedule by pro-rating your summer tuition if you have to be gone!!

Piano and Keyboard Camps

Blast-Off with Piano©
(rising K5 to 3rd graders) It’s the perfect start!! Blast-Off! gives beginning students a successful introduction to the piano and the small group setting makes it extra fun!  Learn keyboard geography and rhythm basics, enjoy fun sheets and games, and share in the joy of music together!  Each student learns on their own digital piano in our digital piano lab.  Special performances at the end of each session.

Beginning Hymnplaying
(rising 7th to 12th graders) FExpand your talents with the hymnplaying skills that will enable you to accompany congregational singing. You will also learn basic song leading skills. You will get hands-on experience by accompanying and leading the class!

Composing & Arranging, Part
(rising 7th to adult)  If you’ve always wanted to “do a little more” at the piano, don’t miss this class!  Learn the basics of writing music, chord structure and harmonization, improvising, and orchestration with the digital piano.  You’ll even compose your own original song!  With our exceptional instructor, you will learn more than you ever thought possible.

Play It, Record It!
(rising 5th to 12th graders)  Come learn how to write down that song in your heart! The possibilities are endless – you’ll be amazed at what the digital piano can do for you!  Learn about basic chord structure and reading chord symbols. In our digital piano lab, begin to master the keyboard as you split the keyboard, record on a sequencer, layer sounds, find sound effects, and more.  At the end, take home a copy of your very own recording!

Musical Theatre Camps

Broadway Blast!
(rising 1st to 7th graders) Join the rest of the cast in putting on the PCS Summer re-make of the famous Broadway musicals, “Music Man” and “Peter Pan.”  Get a behind-the-scenes education about producing and performing in a musical, and enjoy learning valuable vocal and acting tips as you go.  Work together with the entire cast to design your own sets and costumes as you rehearse throughout the week for a special Friday night performance that’s sure to get rave reviews!

Sing!  Play!  Act!
(rising K5 to 7th graders) In Sing! Play! Act!, each student’s abilities come together in one fantastic experience!  In this summer’s production of “Jack & the Beanstalk”, you will memorize lines, design sets, and put together costumes as you learn what goes into producing, practicing, and performing a mini musical. With a bit of review, a little flair, and a lot of drama, you’ll love having the opportunity to build your musical and dramatic skills, all culminating in a special Friday night performance.

Strings Camps
First Strings
(rising 1st to 4th graders) Begin your strings “career” and get a head start on private lessons when you sign up for this beginning class!  With this enjoyable introduction to the violin, students learn basic bow grip, hand position, and fingerings.  Game time and hands-on experience with a violin just your size also ensures a fun and successful introduction to the violin.

Jumpstart Suzuki
(rising 1st to 4th graders)  Jump start the new school year with a terrific orchestra-style camp created especially for early level Suzuki violin students.  Brush up on your technique and have a blast as you work together playing in ensembles and learning new music.  Game time and a special performance on Friday fill out an exciting week of fun and learning.

String Challenge!
(rising 3rd to 7th graders) Polish your skills and make some excellent progress in this summer camp created especially for early level violin students.  Explore bowing techniques and vibrato through solo and ensemble experience.  Find out more about taking care of your violin too.  Learn about famous violinists and review note and rhythm reading.  With games, new music, fun sheets, and more, you’ll be surprised at how much you’ll accomplish!

Fiddle Camp
(rising 3rd to adult)  Learn special musical ornaments and bowing techniques that are a unique part of fiddle playing as you learn Celtic and American fiddle tunes.  You will also learn how to improvise on those fiddle tunes as you practice together to prepare a special Friday night performance that is sure to get people tapping their feet!

Guitar Camps
Beginning Guitar
(ages 8 to adult)  Have you always wanted to play the guitar?  Even as a beginner with little or no knowledge of guitar, you can learn to accompany songs in several keys, as well as learn how to strum patterns that add interest and variety to your playing.  Ability to read music is not necessary, but you will need to bring a guitar to class.  A classical guitar with nylon strings is recommended.

Intermediate Guitar
(ages 8 to adult)  Do you already know how to play the guitar at a basic level?  This class will help you achieve intermediate guitar techniques such as using a capo, playing music in the bass clef, playing in higher positions, playing chord solo guitar, and more!

Art Camps
The Art Scene:  Paint, Draw, & Sculpt
(rising 1st to 12th graders)  Express yourself more clearly through art as you gain hands-on experience through painting, drawing, and sculpting.   You will also learn about three different artists, Van Gogh, Calder, and Wyeth.  Throughout the week, you will create three pieces of artwork that you will be showcased at the end of the week.

Painting Like the Masters
(rising 10th to Adult)  Study the paintings of great masters and learn the techniques, colors and subject matter that made them such great artists.  You will create a painting of your own in the style of the artist, which will ensure your painting to be gallery worth, challenging, and exciting to create.  After a week of studying these artists, and painting your own masterpiece on a full size canvas with oil pants, your painting will be ready to frame and hang at the completion of this class!

For Everyone… General Music Camps

Vacation with the Masters, Parts 1 & 2
(rising 1st to 9th graders)  Attention all Music Sleuths!  Music History records are missing!!  Travel back in time to find the stolen music history records. Create your very own music history journal as you gather information about the great composers and their music.  Learn the distinctions between the four musical time periods, play solo and duet music from each, and even learn to compose your own music! 

Part 2 continues where Part 1 left off, with special emphasis on music of North and South America.  On the last day of both classes, you’ll join your classmates in sharing a short program with friends and family.

Music Around the World
(rising 1st to 5th graders)  Did you ever wonder what music is like in other countries? Join us in our travel around the world to discover the music of other countries. Learn about the festivals and events where ethnic instruments are featured.  Play music from each continent we visit and wear some native dress.  Plus, create your own travel journal, musical instruments, and video recording of your adventures!

Early American Composers
(for rising 1st to 9th graders)  Travel back in time to the 19th and early 20th century as you discover the music and composers of early America.  You will be introduced to Joplin, Gershwin and Beach as well as other famous American composers and turn your findings into a music history journal at the end of the week.  Learn and play Ragtime and Impressionistic music, and even compose some of your own uniquely American music.  The final class will conclude with a short drama and recital featuring the lives and music of these American composers as well as original compositions by the American composers in the class!

Adventures in American Music
(rising 1st to 6th graders)  Come join our adventure by playing and singing your way through the history of music in America.  Enjoy and learn from activities such as singing, playing, using rhythmic instruments, listening to music, learning speaking parts, and surveying the backgrounds of important American repertoire.  Join us at the end of the week for a special concert full of music and drama!
